Celebrating incredible women

Mother's Day (11th May) is an opportunity to let the incredible women in our lives know how much we appreciate them.

"Mothers are amongst the unsung heroes in our communities", says Carol Becker, Plunket's President. "So much of what a mum does goes unnoticed, so Mother's Day is a great time to really celebrate the women we love".

In today's society, children are often cared for by people other than their mothers, for a number of reasons. Many grandparents, fathers, foster parents, whanau, family members and organisations take on the responsibility of 'mum', through their role as 'care-giver' on a part-time or full-time basis.

The majority of Plunket's workforce and volunteer base are women, many with children, a fact that is not lost on Mrs Becker.

"We have many mothers in the Plunket family and workforce. I know from personal experience that being a mum can be a real balancing act', says Carol. 'Mother's Day gives families and whanau an opportunity to thank 'mum' for giving us life, giving us guidance and supporting us through the early years and beyond".

On Sunday, Plunket would like to celebrate and honour all mothers for the important role they play in nurturing generations of New Zealanders and ask you to remember those near you who may need support, such as your neighbour, or the new mother down the road.
