$1.2 million funding boost for Plunket’s new client information system

Plunket’s innovative new client information system, PlunketPlus, is one step closer thanks to a $1.2 million dollar donation from the Plunket Foundation.

The Foundation was established in 2008 to fundraise for innovative research projects undertaken by Plunket that wouldn’t otherwise be funded through Plunket’s traditional sources.

Plunket CEO Jenny Prince says the substantial donation will help change the way Plunket nurses deliver key services in the community.

“Currently, patient records are paper based. The new system will provide greater support to our nurses, allowing them to capture and access information electronically in the field, freeing up their valuable time from administration and record taking and allowing them to focus even more on the children and families they are working with,” she says.

“We are looking to improve child health outcomes through access to in-depth, accurate and timely information. We are tremendously grateful to the Plunket Foundation for their support.”

Katherine Rich, Chair of the Plunket Foundation says the Foundation is delighted to make such a significant contribution to the overall project.

“While we have funded a few smaller research projects to date, this is by far the biggest new project to be considered.

“We know that PlunketPlus will make a big difference to the way Plunket supports Kiwi mums and babies and the information collected will increase New Zealand’s data on our children under-5 and help Plunket to inform its work for its next century of service.”

"I would also like to give thanks to the trustees of Karitane Products Services (KPS) for their generous financial donation, which assisted in the creation of the Plunket Foundation”, she said.

The first stage of implementation of PlunketPlus is expected mid-2012.

  • Wonderful to see the money coming from the foundation to support the need for technology. I hope the money keeps rolling in to make this a reality for all Plunket staff and volunteers.
