The horrific car accident this week near the Waikato town on
Patetonga has prompted Plunket to restate the importance of
child car seats. “This incident is a stark reminder for parents and
caregivers to buckle children into a car seat every time
they are riding in the car, no matter how short the
journey”, says Sue Campbell, Plunket’s National Child
Safety Advisor. “Babies need to be in a car seat from their very first
ride”, she says.

The current outbreak of whooping cough in Wellington has
prompted Plunket to restate the importance of immunisation. “Immunisation is a vitally important a tool to protect New
Zealand families and communities. Vaccination is the most
effective way to protect children from the many childhood
diseases that can affect New Zealand families today,” says
Plunket clinical advisor Allison Jamieson.

Plunket strongly advocates for smoke-free households and we
greatly regret that the important messages in the latest
‘Smoking not our future’ ad have been sidelined. Piri Weepu is an outstanding role model and we applaud him
for the work he continues to do to encourage and support New
Zealand families. Plunket wishes to apologise for any offence or disrespect we
may have caused to Piri and his whanau.
