Plunket is partnering with Manukau Urban Māori Authority (MUMA) to deliver services on marae for the first time.
A Plunket mobile bus will provide Well child Services at Nga Whare Waatea from 11 March, beginning with a powhiri at 9am.
Zoe Tipa (nō Ngāi Tahu) Plunket Clinical Leader in Counties Manukau says that working together with MUMA is exciting and will achieve better outcomes for Māori.
“This is a pretty significant relationship in South Auckland, MUMA is one of the second biggest urban Māori Authorities in New Zealand. This relationship is the first of its kind for us and is the beginning of a long term partnership.
“While Plunket have always offered a home visiting service to our clients, this initiative will give yet another option for whānau and creates the possibility of easy access to other services on the Marae,” she says.
Willie Jackson, Chairman of MUMA says they are very excited about providing Plunket services at Nga Whare Waatea Marae.
“Whanau development and whanau ora have always been major priorities for our organisation so Plunket’s vision of ‘Mā te mahi ngātahi, e puawai ai ā tātou tamariki’, is a very good fit for us.”
The service will be offered to all Maori clients in Mangere but will start with the new baby cases.
