Hononga Whānau Māori

Connecting whānau Māori to Māori communities increases their ability to actively participate within te ao Māori, increases access to support networks, and is linked to a secure cultural identity (Durie, 2006).

Plunket connects with whānau Mäori through the services provided by Plunket nurses, kaiāwhina, karitane community nurses, family centres, car seat rental schemes, parenting education, antenatal classes, toy libraries, coffee groups, and PlunketLine.  Other organisations connecting Māori include:

Tūhono is an independent organisation helping Māori to register with Māori organisations that they are affiliated to. This helps Māori organisations develop comprehensive reliable registers of their members.  The purpose of the Tūhono Trust is "to promote Māori wellbeing and identity as being a public benefit for Māori and the wider public of New Zealand”.

Takoa Rua Mano is a networking linkage resource that supports whānau, community, government organisations and commerce.  It contains information on iwi, business, justice, education, government, training, arts, health and social services, and education scholarships.

Naumaiplace is re-establishing and increasing the capability of Māori to express kinship by linking you directly to your marae from wherever you may be living in the world today.
