Education in schools

Plunket provides interactive early childhood courses introducing Year 11,12 and 13 secondary school students to the basic needs of young children. In developing these courses Plunket has built on the philosophy ‘it takes a community to raise a child’.

Plunket provided early childhood education is part of Plunket's core

Be a volunteer parent

Do you have a child under five?

Teaching parenting skills at a secondary level:

  • provides an opportunity to sow seeds in the minds of our future parents
  • enables students to have an informed and reflective insight into their own experiences
  • raises awareness of the parenting skills required to effectively care for and nurture young children
  • highlights the commitment required in the parenting role

By starting to teach some of these skills at high school, we are hoping that these students become better brothers, sisters, uncles and aunties and that by the time these students become parents they will have built on this base knowledge and be confident in learning more to become a competent parent.
