Parents as first teachers

The Parents as First Teachers (PAFT) programme is a free parent education and support programme that helps parents understand how their infant develops and learns, and how they can best help their child reach their full potential. It gives parents with young children practical support and guidance.

Working from the premise that parents are their children’s first and most important teachers, PAFT supports parents in the very early stages of their child’s life.  Parents who get this support can become more confident in their parenting role and participate more effectively in their children’s development and education. This support lasts from before birth to 3 years. (Please note that enrolment criteria may apply.)

Plunket is one of the leading providers of the programme. Our PAFT educators work as members of the wider Plunket teams to provide a broad-based and holistic approach to family wellbeing.
