Providing support

Plunket is a unique partnership of health professionals and volunteers who provide support and services to help families nationwide. We do this through home and clinic visits, family centres, new mothers’ groups, toy libraries, play groups, and child safety initiatives.

The Plunket nurse assess your baby's growth and development, hearing, vision and wellness at each contact. Visits include care and support for the whole family as they adjust to the needs of a new baby.

As baby grows the nurse continues to offer support and guidance with growth and development assessments and information about breastfeeding, nutrition, parenting, sleep position, smoke-free, safety, immunisation and familiy health issues. Contact with the Plunket service also connects families to others in their community

Every family is entitled to receive the following free visits at these ages in their child's life.

In some areas, Plunket employs Parents As First Teachers (PAFT) educators to provide additional support that focuses on children’s learning opportunities. Plunket staff and volunteers also offer group parenting education sessions. Plunket in your area.

Plunket volunteers are parents from the local community who support our organisation and our services. These additional programmes and local community facilities are funded by money raised by Plunket volunteers. Volunteers also run Plunket car seat rental schemes.
