Car seat rental service

Plunket's Car Seat Rental Service (CSRS) has been providing a specialist child restraint service for New Zealand families for over 30 years.

The law in New Zealand requires you to have all children under 5 years of age restrained in a child car restraint for every ride. The restraint must be a child restraint appropriate for the height and weight of the child, the vehicle safety belt on its own is not enough. Read more at New Zealand Transport Agency.

Our CSRS Coordinators are trained child restraint technicians who have been assessed against unit standards on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF). This theory and practice based training qualifies them to sell, rent, and install a range of child restraints. Most importantly, it means that they are qualified to help parents and the wider public choose the best restraint to keep children safe in the car.

As well as having technical know-how, Car Seat Rental Service staff make it their priority to build great relationships with families in their community. This is especially important as they can often be the first point of contact for new parents with Plunket services.

What’s required

As a Car Seat Rental Service Coordinator you will need to have:

  • Commitment to safe transportation of children in vehicles
  • Commitment to upholding knowledge. Our CSRS staff enjoy being advocates for Plunket, whether talking about safety with families or speaking to parents at kindergartens
  • Communication skills. Staff work closely with clients in a wide variety of situations, from ensuring payments are made, to helping travellers with their child restraint needs during the holiday season
  • Ability to work independently. Staff often work sole charge, though you will always have the support of the CSRS Manager and Plunket staff in your area.

Each area is different and hours vary from area to area. If you are also interested in becoming involved with your local Car Seat Rental Service in a volunteer role there are lots of ways you can help. Whether it’s through cleaning car seats or helping with administrative support, volunteers are always welcome.
