"I decided to do the Babysitting Certificate during my lunch hour because I wanted to learn how to be a responsible babysitter. This was the first time I had ever held a baby before, I was a little nervous, but now I feel more confident if I ever did babysit.”

- Year 11 Student, Wellington Boys College

Caring for young children is one of the biggest responsibilities we will have in our lifetimes. At 14, young people are legally allowed to babysit - how many have the knowledge and skills to do this competently? It is a scary thought!

This unit is an abridged version of The Reliable Caregiver and does not have any units credited to an achievement. It is the perfect life skills course and should be offered to all students anticipating the wish to babysit once they turn 14.

Plunket’s Babysitting Certificate course has been developed for delivery by New Zealand teachers or Plunket Educators and is aimed at students studying at Year 9 & 10 (aged 13 to 15 years).
