Plunket has completed a consultation process with its six early childhood education (ECE) communities.

The six ECE centres are:

  • Meadowbank Plunket Preschool, Auckland
  • Matua Plunket Kindergarten, Tauranga
  • Opeys Plunket Education & Care Centre and Opeys OSCAR programme, Tauranga
  • Mount Plunket Preschool, Tauranga
  • Paremata Plunket Crèche, Porirua
  • Banks Peninsula Plunket Community Preschool.

The purpose of the consultation was to explore the best way to provide continued operation of the ECE centres and also deliver these guiding principles:

  • continuity of service for families and whānau
  • good outcomes for children
  • community needs in the long term
  • good outcomes for existing staff – including providing appropriate professional development and support
  • financial sustainability.

ECE staff, families and interested members of the community provided feedback on the strengths and challenges at each ECE centre, as well as factors that need to be considered for future successful operation.

 Outcomes of consultation

The consultation process received feedback from:

  • 162 people via online feedback forms,
  • 130 people who attended workshops, and
  • 6 people who submitted feedback via email.

Feedback for all centres ranked the Plunket ECE staff as a key strength.

On average, 87% of online respondents were extremely satisfied or very satisfied with their Plunket ECE service, and 52% of online respondents endorsed the option of exploring an alternative provider for their ECE centre.

Plunket considered all feedback regarding each centre, and reviewed the feedback and options for future ongoing operation of each centre against the guiding principles.

The consultation outcome documents for each ECE are provided below:
