I started the year by asking everyone to start
thinking[sitetree_link,id=1057] about their role in making
our communities safe healthier places for families and young
children. Part of that responsibility is being able to put
the child lens on everything to judge the impact it will
have on their wellbeing. As part of the Every Child Counts coalition we have asked
for a child impact assessment to be put across all forms of
local and central government planning and policy.
Health Minister Tony Ryall today launched the annual
influenza immunisation campaign. Plunket, New Zealand’s largest provider of services to
support the health and well-being of children under five is
encouraging New Zealanders to take up the government’s
offer of free influenza vaccinations. “New Zealanders tend to underestimate what a serious
disease influenza is”, says Plunket Clinical Advisory
Manager Karen Magrath.
Flooding following the severe storm that has lashed
Canterbury has affected local Plunket services. Many Plunket
services have been cancelled and appointments are being
rescheduled. Plunket is advising parents and caregivers to follow Council
advice not to leave home today if you don’t need to.
Royal Family The Royal New Zealand Plunket Society is
delighted with the news from Kensington Palace and the New
Zealand Royal Visit Office today that they are to be a part
of the upcoming visit by Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and
Duchess of Cambridge and baby Prince George. “We are just so excited to be a part of the visit. Their
time in New Zealand is so limited so to get the opportunity
to introduce them to Plunket is such an honour”, says
Plunket New Zealand President Tristine Clark.
