The Plunket Rooms in Bishopdale Mall will be closing on Monday 22 July after Christchurch City Council received a Detailed Engineering Evaluation that shows the building is earthquake-prone.
Plunket’s Canterbury Area Manager Anne Feld says the Bishopdale Plunket rooms currently house the Plunket Family Centre and is the Bishopdale Plunket clinic.
“Christchurch families have been through a lot over the last few years and it’s always disappointing to have to change things on them again. The safety of our parents and children is our top priority though so we completely understand and support the council’s decision.
“There is no immediate concern for public safety but the Christchurch City Council has advised us that the building is under the 34% compliance required to keep Council-owned buildings open”, she says.
From the end of July the Plunket Family Centre will be relocated to the Hoon Hay Plunket rooms on McCarthy Street and the clinics will be relocated to Plunket’s offices nearby in Kendall Avenue.
Ms Feld says that all clients normally seen at the Bishopdale rooms will be notified and given the option of which nearby Plunket room they would like their next Plunket appointment to be held.
Christchurch City Council General Manager Community Services Michael Aitken says the Council has worked closely with Plunket Canterbury throughout this process.
“We regret the inconvenience that this will cause families but we are pleased that, with good planning, Plunket has been able to find a solution that will ensure it can continue to offer this vital service.”
