Plunket has a wonderful dedicated family of partners who support our everyday work within communities across New Zealand – and when extraordinary events like November’s earthquakes occur, they’re also the first to put their hands up to help.
Huggies, Wattie’s, Dettol and Colgate rallied together to provide much needed supplies of nappies, baby food, and cleaning products (including hand sanitizer and wipes, and tooth paste and brushes) for quake affected families in Kaikoura and North Canterbury.
Pregnancy & Parenting Manager Linda Hill led the coordination and distribution of these support packs (‘Hugs in a Bag’) alongside her Plunket Canterbury staff and volunteers. She said:
“Many families from Kaikoura were evacuated and relocated to Canterbury quite quickly after the initial earthquake. Their homes were severely damaged and many had to leave with nothing but the clothes on their backs.”
“These families have kept in close contact with the Plunket Team and still receive support packs as they work towards moving back to their homes.”
“Like most disasters, the initial response for help is overwhelming, but after a while the response dies down but there are still families who need extra help. We’re really pleased that our partners have allowed us to continue to provide help even to today, with the huge amount of product they sent.”
A big THANK YOU to Huggies, Wattie’s, Colgate and Dettol for your tremendous support in helping Plunket to help families in need.
