Proposal for changes to Plunket's central region

Plunket is consulting with staff on a proposal for change relating to our administrative, leadership, community services functions and structure in our central region. The consultation is only a proposal at this stage – a proposal is by no means a decision and there is still some way to go before decisions are made. We’d like to reassure families that they can continue to use our services as they would usually. Plunket thanks staff for engaging constructively and continuing to provide services to the community during a time of potential change, and for their commitment to Plunket’s role in supporting families.

Plunket is focused on providing a consistent range of community services to families throughout New Zealand.

Following the consolidation of Plunket to one entity last year, we looked at how we can best support consistent and equitable service delivery across our central region, where we will be serving around 19,000 new babies and their families in the coming year. This has led to us work with staff to explore how we can work more effectively in our central region leadership, administrative and community services functions. Our nursing service is outside of the scope of this work.

Through workshops with staff, we’ve discussed areas of duplication and where we can increase our efficiency, in order to make best use of our people and resources to help families with young children. Our aim is to provide all families with the support they need and improve the health and wellbeing of young children, by making sure no family is left isolated, disconnected or unable to cope. We aim to direct our resources where they can make the biggest difference particularly to the most vulnerable.

We are currently consulting with staff on a proposal for change relating to our administrative, leadership, community services functions and structure.

In the proposal, 53 roles would be disestablished, there would be 18 reconfirmed roles, 15 contestable roles and 1 newly created role. The consultation is only a proposal at this stage – a proposal is by no means a decision and there is still some way to go before decisions are made. As with all proposals at Plunket we are actively seeking feedback from staff. Wherever possible we would be looking to reassign any staff who were in roles that were disestablished, once decisions on final structure have been made.

We’d like to thank staff for working with us constructively and continuing to provide services to the community during a time of change, and for their commitment to Plunket’s role in supporting families.

We’d like to reassure families that they can continue to use our services as they would usually.

We will also work with communities to ensure the services that we provide are not unnecessarily impacted during this time.
