Pacific families from Auckland, Wellington and Whanganui have taken part in new research to help Plunket improve its services for the Pacific community. Eighty-four families from 9 Pacific ethnicities took part in 12 focus groups with Plunket, sharing their stories and experiences and giving their suggestions for how Plunket could work differently to better meet their needs. Seven key people from Plunket and external agencies with expertise in working with Pacific clients were also interviewed for the research.
Flooding following the severe storm that has lashed Canterbury has affected local Plunket services. Many Plunket services have been cancelled and appointments are being rescheduled. Plunket is advising parents and caregivers to follow Council advice not to leave home today if you don’t need to.
Special notice - Plunket services
Plunket services in the Wellington, Hutt, Kapi-Mana and Porirua areas will recommence from mid-day today. Please take care when out and about though. We will update you later as things change.
Plunket is pleased to hear that more New Zealand families are making use of free B4 School health checks. The government announced today that nearly 80 percent of four year old children received a B4 School Check last year – an increase of around 30 percent on previous years. Plunket Clinical Advisor Sandra Innes says the B4 School Check aims to ensure that all children get the best possible start to their school life.
