Plunket says World Immunisation Week, which kicks off today (24 April), is a wonderful opportunity to promote the importance of immunisation to communities throughout New Zealand. World Immunisation Week (24-30 April) is a World Health Organization initiative to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease. Plunket - Immunisation the best protection against influenza

Health Minister Tony Ryall today launched the annual influenza immunisation campaign. Plunket, New Zealand’s largest provider of services to support the health and well-being of children under five is encouraging New Zealanders to take up the government’s offer of free influenza vaccinations. “New Zealanders tend to underestimate what a serious disease influenza is”, says Plunket Clinical Advisory Manager Karen Magrath.

Auckland measles outbreak highlights importance of immunisation

News of a feared measles outbreak in Auckland has prompted Plunket to restate the importance of immunisation. “Immunisation is the most effective way to protect children from the many childhood diseases that can affect New Zealand families today,” says Plunket clinical advisor Allison Jamieson.  Allison says these diseases can have serious complications and are often spread by family members or friends.

Immunisation the best protection against influenza

New Zealand’s largest provider of services to support the well-being of children under five is encouraging New Zealanders to take up the government’s offer of free influenza vaccinations. “New Zealanders tend to underestimate what serious disease influenza is”, says Plunket clinical advisor Marianne Grant. “It kills around 400 New Zealanders, directly or indirectly, each year – so it’s not something we should take lightly.
