The Plunket Rooms in Campbell St have closed this week until a detailed engineering evaluation can confirm whether the building is earthquake safe.
Wanganui Plunket Area Manager Jo Malcolm-Black says that since the Christchurch earthquake, building safety has been a priority for organisations across the country.
“The safety of our staff and clients is a top priority for Plunket and we have commissioned an engineering report for the Campbell St rooms to help us to determine whether this is an appropriate site.
“There is no immediate concern for public safety but with the recent earthquakes in Wellington we have decided to err on the side of caution and close the Campbell St facility until the report is complete.
“All the Plunket services offered at Campbell St, including the Car Seat service, will be moved to our Heads Road Family Centre.
“We regret the inconvenience that this will cause families. We will continue with the engineering report and will reassess the ongoing use of our Campbell St facility once we have the detailed findings”.
Ms Malcolm-Black says that all clients normally seen at the Campbell St rooms will be notified.
Plunket families with any questions are invited to call the Plunket team on 345 3142.
