PlunketPlus continues to be a focus for Plunket and great progress is being made, as we work towards moving all client and health information from a paper based to an electronic system.
Plunket’s new electronic client information system will enable us to support our health care services by accessing and recording information via the use of tablets, while working with children and their families in their homes or at local Plunket clinics.
Plunket had close to 1,000,000 contacts* in 2012, across all of our services. By accessing more accurate and integrated information, Plunket will be able to help contribute to improving the health outcomes for New Zealand children and their families.
In March Plunket moved into the first phase of implementation, part of this phase involves the testing of PlunketPlus with a small user group based in Auckland. This stage centres on the Well Child service and the Plunket Electronic Health Record.
Plunket CEO Jenny Prince was in Auckland the day a Plunket Nurse used a tablet device to record information with a client for the first time.
“It made me very proud of our achievements to date, excited by our innovative initiative and also aware that this is the first step in this organisation-wide project that will touch all our people, areas and every aspect of our business”, she said.
“We are undertaking 25 years of technology in just five, from storing our information on paper in files to having all client information stored on Plunket servers, and accessible while mobile, at anytime, anywhere. This is the single biggest project that we’ve ever undertaken”.
“This is a very important time for us. Our primary focus during this phase is to ensure the safety of our client information and the security of our system, and the first stage of implementation focuses on robust system functionality, staff readiness and training. This is essentially a review, feedback and change phase while we continue to develop our national implementation plan and roll out across Plunket over the next 18 months”.
PlunketPlus will transform the way we record, store and access client information to better enable us to support and improve the health outcomes of New Zealand children.
PlunketPlus will enable Plunket to deliver more integrated and interactive services, work in closer partnership with parents and caregivers, respond more quickly to New Zealand’s most vulnerable children, and connect more closely with organisations in the health and social service community.
