“The Tiny Jandals playgroup changed my life.” Dawn
We all know being a parent can be hard at times. But it’s even worse when you feel alone and have no one to share your struggles with.
Dawn was in this situation when she moved to Mangere - she had no family and friends and no money to go back and visit. Dawn couldn’t even afford day trips to the city to get out of the house. She was feeling very sad and alone.
Then she discovered Tiny Jandals.
“The Tiny Jandals playgroup changed my life.”
When Dawn discovered the Plunket Family Centre in Mangere she was so happy. She was a little nervous the first time she went because not knowing anyone is always a little nerve wracking. But within a couple of weeks she felt like a regular. She was able to be herself and chat with other mothers and just let go and relax.
A place I feel comfortable in
Now Dawn has other mothers to talk to as well as Plunket volunteers like Rubi-Lin. Her little boy has friends to play with, lots of toys (that Dawn can’t afford), and activities he loves. And best of all, it’s walking distance from home.
“Tuesdays and Thursdays are the best days of the week for us. Now I feel like I’m part of the community. I have friends I can relate to and now I see them outside of playgroup as well.”

Without Tiny Jandals in her community, Dawn and her son would still be feeling alone today. Rubi-Lin and the Mangere volunteers have run their playgroup for months on $145 - imagine what they could do with real support.
