What is the role?

Karitane work in conjunction with our nurses and Kaiāwahina. We’ll help you to become experts in the tricky parts of parenting like sleeping, behaviour and toilet training. By listening to each situation, you’ll be able to provide options to help whānau find a solution that suits them.

Karitane are key in providing social support for whānau, so its important to understand you’ll be working with whānau who are experiencing high levels of deprivation or complex situations.

Do I need any particular experience?

Nope! So long as you’re great at working with parents from all walks of life, we can help you to learn the rest. You’ll need to be a people person, with strong emotional intelligence and a strong desire to help whānau succeed.

Do you provide training?

Yes! The orientation period will depend on what support you need and the experience you come with. You’ll be supported with ongoing PD, training days and online learning available.

You’ll work with an experienced preceptor who will both role model and observe your visits. Before you go out on your own, you’ll be signed off by your Clinical Leader as well.
