Choosing who you want to support you is one of the first things to do when you find out you’re pregnant.

For many people, their lead maternity carer (LMC) is a registered midwife/tapuhi - and one of the easiest ways to find and choose a midwife is through the Find Your Midwife website.

LMCs can also be obstetricians (doctors who specialise in pregnancy and childbirth), or family doctors who provide maternity care.

The Find your Midwife website has been created by the New Zealand College of Midwives to help women to find a midwife they can work with best

What does a LMC do?

Your LMC will:

  • provide care for you throughout your pregnancy
  • tell you about the different options available to you (e.g. pain relief, where to have your baby)
  • be with you during birth, and
  • provide care for you and your baby for 4-6 weeks after birth.

Following this – you’ll have your first Plunket visit, and we’ll become your new go-to support people.
