What is the role?
Adopting mātauranga Māori and utilising models of health, you’ll work predominantly with whānau Māori to achieve wellness.
You’ll help whānau to maintain the mana of their tamariki while navigating the early years.
You’ll also play a key part in the running of wānanga for whānau in the community, as well as forming key relationships with community groups, local iwi and marae.
Do I need any particular experience?
Not necessarily. You will need to be confident in forming trusting relationships, as you can often be the first person whānau speak with.
Our Kaiāwhina work directly with whānau but also form connections externally, so you will bring a professional manner and a passion for providing education in a mana-enhancing manner.
Do you provide training?
Yes! You will be partnered with experienced Kaiāwhina, Community Karitane and nurses so you have a good understanding of our services. You’ll also be supported with ongoing professional development, training days and online learning available. We also have a National Kaiāwhina Mentor available for support.
An experienced preceptor will be available to role model and observe your visits. Before you go out on your own, you’ll be signed off by your Clinical Leader as well.
