Safety

At this age your baby is most at risk of injury from falls as they wriggle and start to roll.

Go through this checklist and make changes to your home environment to help keep your baby safe.

  • Get down on the floor at your baby’s level and look for dangers such as plugs or heaters.
  • Make sure the car seat your baby uses is suitable for infants.
  • Use the harness in your pram/pushchair.
  • Check toys for sharp or broken pieces.
  • Check that baby’s cot isn’t painted with lead-based paint if it's old, and that it has no broken or missing parts.
  • Remove your baby’s bib before they go to bed.
  • Always keep a hand on your baby while bathing them.
  • Put the cold water into the bath first.
  • Keep one hand on your child the whole time if you have them on a high surface such as a bed or changing table.
