Whānau Āwhina Plunket has reached an exciting milestone, with all 24 sites in our immunisation pilot now open. The final clinics in Hastings and Napier in Hawke’s Bay launched last week, completing the rollout of new immunisation options for whānau where access has been hardest.

The pilot, delivered in partnership with Health New Zealand, aims to provide additional, convenient opportunities for whānau to get childhood immunisations in places they already know and trust. This includes Plunket clinics, community pop-ups, and in-home services where needed.

Since launching our first site in Whangārei in late 2024, Plunket teams have now delivered more than 4,000 vaccinations. With the current measles outbreak, these extra access points are already proving their value in helping protect pēpi and tamariki.

Early experiences across the motu show the value of this service. Our teams have seen whānau catching up on missed immunisations and hapū māmā choosing to vaccinate because they feel safe with their Plunket Nurse, with some whānau opting to complete their child’s remaining vaccines at Plunket after a positive experience.

Plunket is also continuing to grow its vaccinator workforce, with around 50 nurses already authorised and more completing assessments in the coming weeks.

This pilot will help determine the most effective, whānau-centred ways to offer immunisation, while working closely with GP, pharmacy, Pacific, Māori and outreach partners to support healthy futures for tamariki.
