Your Fairy Godmother

Have you ever called PlunketLine?

“Lots of parents call me their Fairy Godmother, and I love that.”
Carla

My name is Carla and I’m a PlunketLine nurse.

As PlunketLine nurses our teams commit to being available 24/7 all year round. No matter where you are, what time it is or what your parenting problem is, you can always call us for support and advice.

PlunketLine - someone to talk to

Sometimes a phone call is all it takes to get you back on track - but for others it can take much more help. I remember taking a call from a first time mum who was really on the edge. After weeks without a proper night’s sleep and hours of non-stop crying she was terrified that she might hurt her baby.

PlunketLine keeps Mums and bubs safe

So this is what we did to make sure she could cope and the baby was safe.

  • Together we talked through what was happening with her and the baby and organised a plan for getting them back on track. By the end of the call, mum and bub were safe at home with mum’s partner.
  • We booked support workers to come and help out. One of our Plunket nurses went to see the family and spent time showing mum and her partner how to settle their baby and gave them tips on how to work as a team to get through the tough first few months with a new bub.
  • For the first week a PlunketLine Nurse called every night at bedtime to make sure that everything was going to plan and everybody was OK.

Happy and healthy kiwi families

Now everybody in that family is getting more sleep, and has less stress. I’m so happy that we were able to turn this situation around. I’ve taken thousands of calls from all over New Zealand - from mums & dads, grannies and granddads and aunties and uncles. Maybe I’ve helped you get through a rough patch?
