People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of health issues, communicable diseases and environmental factors affecting the health and wellbeing of young children; demonstrate knowledge of immunisation programmes and health services in the community that protect and enhance the wellbeing of young children.

This unit standard is an introduction to early childhood learning and life skills. It is designed for people who care for young children in parenting roles, or as support for carers of infants, toddlers and/or young children in a supervised environment.

Modules include:

  • Environmental factors that affect the health and wellbeing of young children
  • Health issues affecting young children
  • Communicable conditions
  • Immunisation and disease prevention
  • Child health services in the community and responding to illness
